Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026
rutera ("the App") is developed by Tech Drops ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.
Summary
rutera is designed with privacy first. Your driving, mileage, expense, and profit records are stored locally on your device. rutera does not require a rutera cloud account and does not store your driving records in a rutera cloud database.
Important distinction: rutera does not operate a cloud database for your driving records. Some platform or device services may still be contacted when needed for app functionality, such as Google Play billing or optional Google reverse geocoding to convert GPS coordinates into street addresses for trip records.
Data Collection
The App is designed not to collect, transmit, or share your driving records through rutera servers. It does not require a rutera cloud account or store your mileage, offer, expense, or profit records in a rutera cloud database. Specifically:
- No account or sign-up required
- No personal information is collected (name, email, phone number)
- No driving records are stored on rutera servers
- No third-party advertising SDKs are used
- No advertising SDKs are included
- No cookies or similar technologies are used
Data Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally in the app. If address lookup is enabled or needed, limited GPS coordinates may be sent to Google's geocoding service only to convert coordinates into street addresses for trip records:
- GPS location data — Used for mile tracking while the App is actively tracking. Mileage records are stored locally by rutera. If address lookup is enabled or needed, limited coordinates may be sent to Google's geocoding service only to convert coordinates into street addresses for trip records.
- Trip records — Start/end locations, distances, and durations are stored on your device for your mileage reports.
- Expense data — Your fixed expenses, fuel costs, and earnings entries are stored locally.
- Offer analysis thresholds — Your minimum $/mile and $/hour settings for each platform.
- App preferences — Language, theme, distance unit, and currency preferences.
Accessibility Service
The App uses Android's Accessibility Service to read offer information displayed by rideshare and delivery apps (Uber, Uber Eats, DoorDash). This service:
- Only reads text content from supported app screens when an offer is displayed
- Does not read content from any other apps
- Does not capture passwords, personal messages, or sensitive information
- Does not transmit offer-screen text to rutera servers
- Can be disabled at any time in your device's Accessibility settings
Notification Listener Service
The App uses Android's Notification Listener Service to detect incoming delivery offers from supported platforms. This service:
- Only reads notifications from Uber, Uber Eats, and DoorDash
- Does not read or store notifications from other apps
- Does not transmit notification data to rutera servers
- Can be disabled at any time in your device's Notification Access settings
Location Permissions
The App requests location permissions for GPS mile tracking. Location data is:
- Only collected while you actively track a trip (Work or Personal mode)
- Stored locally on your device
- Not transmitted to rutera servers; optional address lookup may contact Google geocoding only to convert coordinates into street addresses for trip records
- Used solely to calculate trip distances for your mileage reports
Screen Capture
The App may use Android's MediaProjection API to capture screenshots of rideshare app screens for OCR (Optical Character Recognition) offer analysis. These screenshots:
- Are processed entirely on your device using ML Kit
- Are immediately discarded after text extraction
- Are never stored, saved, or sent to rutera servers
- Only capture the rideshare/delivery app screen, not other apps
PDF Reports
The App can generate IRS-style mileage PDF reports. These reports are created and stored locally on your device. You choose whether and how to share them. This is not tax or legal advice.
Third-Party Services
The App does not use advertising SDKs or third-party analytics to build marketing profiles. Some device or platform services may be contacted when needed for app functionality, such as Google Play billing or Google reverse geocoding to convert GPS coordinates into street addresses for your trip records. rutera does not use these services to build advertising profiles or sell driver data.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Data Deletion
Since your rutera driving records are stored locally on your device, you can delete local App data at any time by:
- Clearing the App's data in Android Settings → Apps → rutera → Storage → Clear Data
- Uninstalling the App
Future Platform Support
We may add support for additional platforms (such as Grubhub, Roadie, Instacart, Walmart Spark) in future updates. The same privacy principles will apply: rutera will continue to avoid a rutera cloud database for your driving records and will clearly disclose any platform services needed for app functionality.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
